Municipality Response Center and Home Care


The Response Center service from Imatis supports a flow of information related to the handling of warnings / alarms from welfare technology products, sensors, alarms and home automation. This is to protect the user and ensure optimal work procedures and efficient flow. The information flow and integration between solutions follow national and international recommendations on architecture and standards and any shared components that are established. In order to create a reference architecture for community based care; Imatis has implemented a large-scale pilot for two health regions in Norway, in close collaboration with Ministry of Health. With more than 500 patients suffering from various chronic conditions a number of Apps support patient care and the capture of information which is relayed to a central response center.  The data is then shared with the care teams in real-time. The data captured from digital sensors and modern Apps, are stored in the cloud and made available to those with appropriate access privileges such as private practitioners, hospitals and others who are part of the care delivery. The plaltform support Internet of Things, and can store and integrate sensors in our cloud based database.

The Response Center Solution from Imatis also supports monitoring sensors when the patients are on the move, by using the Smart Phone as a hub.  The Phone communicates with Bluetooth connected sensors, collects the data and transmits it to the Cloud, taht can store all type of sensors in our Internet of Things (IoT) database

Sensors, Apps and Widgets at the Patient's home

Imatis supports both analogue and digital alarms for welfare.  There are several digital protocols that can be used, and in Scandinavia we see the Social Care Alarm Internet Protocol SCAIP is popular. We also support other standards such as HL7 FIHR and QMMT as well. With the IMATIS Fundamentum Integration- and Messaging Engine we can combine several standards into one common platform without doing point to point integration, but by using an enterprise service bus approach.

The Alarm Protocol needs an additional transport protocol to handle addressing and transport functions. Two Internet Protocols are initially defined to be used as transport protocols to carry the Alarm Protocol from the Alarm Sender to the Alarm Receiver. The protocols defined are SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and the Websocket Protocol.

Since Events may include the initiation of voice or multimedia sessions, the SIP protocol may be the most applicable protocol to use. However, for use cases where no voice or multimedia sessions are to be established, the Websocket Protocol may be more suitable.

Imatis also supports WebRTC for Video and Voice, this is now becoming the new standard due to its popularity as it is embedded in the web browser and can be implemented in Apps as well.

Imatis can also connect other sensors and home automation solutions, i.e. motion sensors, fall sensors, wireless safety sensors, door openers etc.

Imatis platform is used to connect sensors from several vendors, both digital and analogue versions into response center applications.  The response center is installed in the Cloud and can by accessed from any location with secure access and log on.

The Response Center functionality and applications for Patients can be extended with Apps from Imatis, partners and others.  By using Continua, SCAIP, FIHR or MTTQ standards the Center can be integrated and share information even if there are several vendors involved. Some Imatis partners have developed training videos that patients can access with their own browser, tablet or smart phone.  The response center can follow up to see if the patient has completed the training as agreed.

Imatis has developed Apps for patients to register their own health status and share that information with the Response Center.  There are Apps for COPD and other chronic disease.  This App is being used in a large scale pilot for remote monitoring patients so they can live longer in their own home.

By using the Continua standard or other standards, Imatis platform can be used to collect data from medical sensor. Sensors can both be wired and wireless. The response center can in real time see the sensor measurements and then evaluate the result.  At the same time, it can be established a Video and Voice dialog between the patient and the response center.  It is also possible to involve clinical staff located remote into the video conference.

Response Center Solution

The response center application from Imatis is based on our standard platform, but tailored to this specific need.  The call center has access to all data that the patient registers on their device, as well as all sensors that are involved in the treatment plan.  The care staff set up video and voice face-to-face meetings with patients on daily basis, or at the patient's request.  If a social care alarm occurs, the call center also initiates voice or video communication with the patient.  If needed the response center can send a task request to a mobile team that will visit the patient in their home.  The mobile team can use smart phone apps for managing work lists.  The response center application has full access to the Electronic Patient Record, evaluates sensor measurements as well as provides decision support tools. The response center application support WebRTC and Web ORTC that can be used on any modern web browser.  Supported browsers are Edge, Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Firefox.

Via the user interface the clinical staff can access the patient's electronic record or the national patient record and open the information in context.  IMATIS Visual Health provides an anatomical representation of the clinical information and can be added to the user's interface.

The Imatis platform integrates apps, widgets, sensors and devices to help patients to live longer in their own homes. Sensors from partners as Lyse Smartly, Sonitor and Rauland are examples of devices that can be integrated into the response center solution for assisted living.

Sensor for all types of devices can be monitored in real time, and historical values can be searched.  The user interface can be accessed from any device and the data is stored with patient context in our historian timeseries database. Sensors can be connected by using the Continua standards, OPC or open WebServices. The data is stored in the IMATIS Historian time series database, that is a platform for Internet of Things.  The database can be run from cloud or from local data centers.

The Response Center detects when patients connect to safety alarms.  The armed alarms are visible through the Response Center application.  In the event that an alarm goes off and the Response Center cannot contact the patient, a task is automatically assigned to a mobile team to respond.

The mobile response team includes health professionals with broad experience in crisis management, and in cooperation with all health and welfare services, emergency services, police and fire departments will scramble to the patient's property.

Work lists and the organization of the response team is from the response center. The response team receives their assigned tasks to their Smart phones.
